Our favorite chocolate frosting is thick, creamy, and not too sweet. We love chilling our chocolate cake and eating it cold, the frosting becomes deliciously fudgy! Make sure to use unsweetened natural cocoa powder, not dutch processed. You can control the flavor by the amount of powdered sugar you add. We like a more milk chocolatey flavor, for more of a dark chocolate taste reduce powdered sugar by 1/2 cup.
1/2 c. softened butter, salted
4 oz. softened cream cheese (Philadelphia brand preferred)
1/2 c. unsweetened baking cocoa
5 1/2 c. powdered sugar (C&H brand preferred)
1 tsp vanilla
Beat together butter and cream cheese just until combined.
Add in cocoa, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Beat to combine while slowly adding milk, a little at a time until correct consistency is reached. Do no overbeat or frosting may separate.
